Claypot Lice
This is a backdated entry from just before Chinese New Year this year when I was in Chinatownto take pictures with my new camera when I decided to have a quick bite at the hawker centre at Chinatown Complex. This used to be an old luchtime haunt when I was in National Service. My quick bite turned into a full heavy meal when I decided to have somthing that I never really got a chance to have during my NS days... claypot rice from a particular stall that only opened during dinner.
20 minutes later, my single portion claypot rice arrived, topped with chicken, lap cheong and some mysterious yummy black bits of meat that I suspect was some kind of preserved meat... almost had the texture of jerky. So after drizzling sesame oil and dary soya sauce followed by a quick toss, I tucked into the piping hot rice and chicken. It was quite perfect. The chicken and rice were not over and under cooked. The best part of having this, I was told, is the bottom of the clay pot where you scrape off the crispy bits of rice...i never really was a fan of this, cos they just stick to my teeth.
All the preserved meats hanging on display in some of the CNY stalls downstairs, I cannot help but feel a bit squeamish, especially just after eating stuff like that in my claypot rice. Sure was tasty though.
