Aroma Surprise

Being unable to go for a paella party(pronounced "pah-EH-yah")at Roberto's(Rehan's new Spanish fren)as I had to work, I settled to tapau a pack of Hokkien mee from Aroma coffee shop next to the office. The hokkien mee was mediocre and bland but the lousy noodles didn't really bother me as I was damm hungry. As I was spooning the last mouthfuls of gravy into my mouth, I found, to my surprise(and horror)a bug in it. Though most of you might find this disgusting I have to say that I was quite relieved. It could have been worse. My colleague Carol found a baby roach in her sang mian, also purchased from Aroma coffee shop. She too found the Rentokil escapee in her noodles as she was almost done with the meal. Think its some strange law of nature, like how a piece of toast always falls buttered side down on the floor.

NDP pizza party

Last night, I was at Mustafa's with the Sengari sisters. Never go to Mustafa's with women. It was such a garrulous affair. One sister was sick, moaning and wanting to make it quick, but when she sees some thing she likes, she would say ".....want to get for me for my birthday?" The other one was a kid in a candy store. The actual reason for them going was to buy stuff for their trip to Redang the next day and also to get ingredients for a pizza lunch that they were doing the next day, inspired by a pizza cookbook that they bought.

We made the dough from scratch(yeast and letting it rise in a warm place) so I guess that had to count for something....(when Shan found out that we had a pizza making experiment, she was pretty upset that she was left out thinking it was a party). The funny thing abt the Sengari sisters is seeing them break into a little dance (not with each other) all of a sudden when a favorite techno beat comes blasting out of their computer while their mother just looks on at her vivacious offspring...

I didn't eat much of the pizza thought, cos their Ibu cooked a feast of sambal goreng, sambal tumis with with fish roe and lauk singgang. If I had a choice between eating food that I cooked and eating someone else mother's cooking, of course I eat the mother's cooking lah. You can't go wrong with tried and tested recipes that have been thru the cold war, John Lennon's assination, the fall of the Berlin wall and Sept 11.
She also made bubur kacahang hijau with durian that Syereen tapaued and which I ate chilled the next day. Beats Ben & Jerry's anyday.
